Mr. Magnuson is a first year doctoral student studying composition at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music. He shared what inspired him to write Palos:
Congratulations to Kristopher Magnuson, winner of the 2014-2015 CSQ String Quartet Composition Competition at the University of Toronto. His composition Palos will be performed by the CSQ at the University of Toronto’s New Music Festival on February 5 2015 at 12:00pm.
“Palos is a tribute to the major creative influence of my life over the previous few years – the Andalusian gypsy music of flamenco. With the recent passing of modern flamenco guitar’s founding father, Paco de Lucia, the time felt right to honour his influence and legacy to the best of my abilities.”
