Congratulations to Roydon Tse! His composition Breathe is the winner of this year’s CSQ String Quartet Composition Competition at the University of Toronto.
The Hong-Kong Canadian composer is currently based in Toronto where he is pursuing a D.M.A. in composition at U of T with Norbert Palej.
“Breathe explores in musical terms the various ideas related to breathing, such as representing musically the phrasing of a natural breath to incorporating sounds of breathing along with the string quartet” writes Mr. Tse. “The piece was a place where I could explore things I have not done before, such as combining vocal effects as well as ‘remixing’ baroque influences in my music.”
The work will be premiered on Thursday February 4th at the University of Toronto New Music Festival. Click here for more information about the concert.
We hope to see you there!
